The Ins and Outs of Your Post 9/11 GI Bill Benefits
This week marks the 78th Anniversary of the signing of the GI Bill. The GI Bill benefit is right up there with free medical care when it comes to perks for serving in the military. The value of your Post 9/11 GI Bill benefit is not only big, the impact it can have on your future earnings and quality of life is even greater. Just like any planning for transitioning out of the military, there is some prep and planning that goes into getting the most out of your GI Bill benefit.
In this episode, I talk to veteran benefit expert, Dr. Paul R. Lawrence on how to plan and get the most out of your Post GI Bill benefit, mistakes to avoid, and how to transfer your benefit to your dependents.
Dr. Lawrence is an Army veteran, author, and passionate Veteran advocate. For almost three years, he served as Under Secretary of Benefits at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. As Under Secretary, he was in charge of the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA).
During his time as Under Secretary, Veterans received more benefits faster and at a lower cost than at any time in VBA history. His 2021 book, “Transforming Service to Veterans: How I Pursued Performance Excellence at VBA,” describes the accomplishments during his time as Under Secretary.
He serves on the Board of Directors of Vets2Industry, a non-profit organization helping Veterans pursue a career in the private sector, and the Board of Trustees of Purpose Built Families, a nationally-accredited nonprofit that delivers compassionate, informed care to address underlying causes of Veteran homelessness.
Buying a home is a big investment of your time and money. Navy Federal Credit Union helps military members and their families tackle home ownership. They are a top VA home lender that offer mortgage options with zero down payment and options that don’t require private mortgage insurance. Which helps you save money each month.
